Azione B4: Inventario per l’identificazione delle principali tipologie di colture ed i loro effetti sulle emissioni di N2O

Durata: Luglio 2012 - Marzo 2013

Scopo: Con questa azione verrà realizzato un inventario per l'identificazione delle principali tipologie di colture nel territorio della Regione Toscana, con lo scopo di fornire nuovi strumenti alle autorità locali per individuare le possibili azioni per ridurre le emissioni di N2O in agricoltura. 

Questa azione sarà condotta raccogliendo le informazioni necessarie da:

- Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (ISTAT);
- Corine Land Cover;
- Report di progetti Nazionali e Internazionali in materia di mitigazione dei gas serra;
- Le associazioni professionali di agricoltori

Questa azione, unita alle azioni B5 e B6, ha un ruolo di fondamentale importanza per proporre le migliori pratiche (Azione B.7) per la mitigazione delle emissioni di N2O in agricoltura e per sviluppare un'analisi di scenario a scala regionale (Azione C.2).

Stato dei Lavori: Questa azione è stata sviluppata a partire da Settembre 2012 e si è conclusa a Giugno 2013 con la redazione dell'inventario delle tipologie di colture in Toscana.

Action B4: Inventory for identification of the main cropping systems and their effects on N2O emissions

From July 2012 to March 2013

In this action, we will realize an inventory of the main land use and agricultural practices in the Tuscany Region, with the aim to provide new tools to policy makers on possible actions to reduce N2O emissions from the agricultural sector.

In detail, the main objectives of this action will be:
- to obtain essential information on the main cropping systems widespread in Tuscany, as a basis for territorial analysis and planning (Action B.7 and Action C.2);
- to identify the lack of information regarding the relationship between crop management and GHG emissions, with special emphasis on N2O, based on the results obtained in previous national and international projects (NITROEUROPE; CARBO-EUROPE, etc.), as a starting point for planning the monitoring campaigns to be undertaken within this project
- to identify, among the many measurement protocols on N2O emissions proposed by several research projects, the one most suitable to validate the portable prototype under field condition. 

This action will be conducted by collecting the needed information from:
- National Institute of Statistic (ISTAT);
- Corine Land Cover;
- National and international reports on GHG mitigation projects;
- Professional associations of farmers and/or interviews.

This action, together with actions B.5 and B.6, has a crucial role to propose the best practices (Action B.7) for N2O emissions mitigation from agriculture and to develop the regional scale scenario analysis (Action C.2). 

Expected results

Inventory of the main cropping systems in order to identify:

- the land use in the Tuscany Region;
- the regional distribution of the main crops on Usable Agricultural Area (UAA);
- the ordinary management practises.

This starting knowledge will be used as base data to plan the monitoring campaigns and to develop the reference scenario for N2O emissions in the Tuscany Region (Action C.2).
